At a glance:
The Congress Hall is the jewel of the new Rheingoldhalle. With its golden embossing, it lends the building a solemn aura. But behind the gold there is also a lot of environmental friendliness: the energy-efficient refurbishment includes over 2,000 energy-saving LED lights and a 100 kW photovoltaic system on the roof. The hall is also connected to the municipal district heating network and the building envelope has been optimized with modern insulation materials.
The Rheingoldhalle's modern ventilation system ensures that a pleasant indoor climate is maintained at all times, both in the fully occupied congress hall with 2200 people and in the Gutenberg Hall with 1200 seminar participants. The continuous exchange of stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air keeps the concentration of harmful aerosols low, which significantly reduces the risk of infection.
Cooling the rooms also plays a decisive role. The tight building envelope and climate change with increasingly hot summers can lead to overheating. However, the Rheingoldhalle congress hall is well prepared: Six of the air-conditioning systems are equipped with advanced technology for indirect evaporative cooling. This uses water for cooling and protects the climate in the process.
Indirect evaporative cooling is based on a principle that our bodies also use: When it is hot, we sweat and the evaporation of moisture removes heat. In the Rheingoldhalle, used room air is humidified in a heat exchanger, whereby the evaporation of the water removes heat from the exhaust air. The cooled and filtered outside air is then fed into the rooms via a counterflow heat exchanger. In this way, the Rheingoldhalle combines modern design with sustainability and safety.
